On September 24, 2019, at about 2025 hours, Newark Police responded to the Newark Shopping Center, located at 230 East Main Street, for a report of a robbery. Officers contacted the male victim of the robbery at the scene. The victim reported that he was in a breezeway in the shopping center when he was approached by a male suspect. The suspect attempted to engage the victim in conversation and the victim began to walk away from the suspect. The suspect then attacked the victim by punching him in the head and knocking him to the ground. The suspect then removed property from the victim and fled on foot northbound from the shopping center.
The suspect is described as a black male, early 20’s, 5’8″ – 5’10”, short dreadlocks and was wearing a red shirt. The suspect did not display any weapon.
The victim sustained minor injuries and did not require medical treatment.

On 09/17/19, Michael McGinnis was taken into custody at a residence in Smyrna. He was transported to Newark Police Headquarters where he was charged with Theft-Organized Retail Crime and Conspiracy Third Degree. He appeared before Justice of the Peace Court #2 by video and was released on his own recognizance.
