Newark Police Seek Identity Of Bike Theft Suspects

Newark, DE (October 3, 2018) – On Tuesday September 18, 2018, at approximately 11:40 a.m., the Newark Police responded to the 200 block of East Delaware Avenue for a report of a bicycle theft which just occurred. A review of surveillance footage in the area showed two males walk up to a bike rack, use a set of bolt cutters to cut two bike locks and ride away with the two bikes. The suspects were then observed getting on a DART bus, utilizing the bus to transport the bikes. The stolen bicycles consisted of a Raleigh mountain bike and a Firmstrong Urban Lady Beach Cruiser valued at a total of approximately $400.

Investigating officers obtained surveillance images of the suspects. The first suspect is described as a white male wearing a blue t-shirt. The second suspect is described as a white male wearing a black baseball style hat, a grey t-shirt, and dark pants.

Newark Police Announce Launch of New Website for Press and Public Information

The Newark Police Department has launched a new website for dissemination of  information to the press and the public:

This website will allow for easier and faster dissemination of information to the public.  The website allows members of the media and the public to subscribe to receive an email when a new post has been added to the site.

In addition, postings on the site will easily integrate with both Facebook and Twitter, thereby allowing information to be disseminated among various internet platforms.  The site allows the police to more easily release additional photos and video related to incidents.

The website is currently live and will be updated beginning today, October 1, 2018.  We will continue the current practice of disseminating information on the City of Newark webpage and via email until October 15, 2018.  After that date, the new website will be the primary means of dissemination of information.

After October 15, 2018, emailed press releases will no longer be issued and all information will be available on the new website.

Members of the media and the public are asked to subscribe to the new site prior to October 15th so that they do not miss any press releases.
