Update – Arrest – Police Investigate Armed Robbery at Baymont Inn

Based upon witness statements and surveillance video, Newark Police detectives identified the suspect in the Baymont Inn robbery as Chavez Waters, 34 from Newark.

On August 12, 2021, at about 1630 hours, Waters was arrested in the area of Fairway Road located in Newark, Delaware. Waters was transported to Newark Police Department Headquarters where he was charged with:

  • Robbery 1st
  • Poss. of a firearm during commission of a felony
  • Aggravated Menacing
  • Drug Dealing
  • Terroristic Threatening
  • Littering

He appeared before New Castle County Justice of the Peace Court 11 and received $135,000 cash bail.

Police Investigate Armed Robbery at Baymont Inn

On Thursday August 12, 2021, at about 0007 hours, Newark Police were called to Baymont Inn, located at 630 South College Ave, for a report of a robbery.

During the robbery, the suspect entered the hotel and displayed a handgun to the clerk. After the suspect made threatening statements, the clerk turned over an undisclosed amount of United States currency. The suspect then fled the area in the direction of South College Ave and the Christina Parkway.

The suspect is described as a black male. No further description at this time.

No one was injured during the incident.
