Newark Police Department Successfully Completes IACP Trust Building Campaign

The Newark Police Department has completed the International Association of Chiefs of Police Trust Building Campaign, a national initiative designed to enhance trust and collaboration between police agencies and the communities they serve.

The Trust Building Campaign was established by the IACP, the world’s largest and most influential professional association for police leaders. The Newark Police Department has completed all 25 key practices, emphasizing six vital areas of modern policing: bias-free policing, use of force, leadership and culture, recruitment and retention, victim services, and community relations.

These focus areas are intended to strengthen positive community-police partnerships, promote safe and effective interactions, support strategies to prevent and reduce crime, and improve the well-being and quality of life for all.

“For the Newark Police Department, completing the Trust Building Campaign was a natural extension of the Department’s longstanding commitment to professionalism, transparency, accountability, and public trust,” said Chief Mark Farrall. “All of the campaign’s principles are already embedded in the Department’s operations and culture through policy, training, accountability measures, recruitment practices, victim-centered services, and ongoing community engagement.”

Because the Department’s values and practices closely align with the IACP’s standards, participation in the campaign reinforces the work already underway while providing a structured framework for continued assessment and improvement.

As part of that commitment, the Newark Police Department has developed a dedicated transparency webpage to provide the community with direct access to important departmental documents, policies, reports, and information. The goal of the page is not only to demonstrate alignment with recognized best practices, but also to openly share the Department’s work with the community it serves.

By making this information accessible, the Newark Police Department seeks to strengthen trust, promote accountability, and foster an ongoing partnership with residents, businesses, visitors, and community partners. The Department remains committed to building and maintaining strong relationships with the Newark community.

The Newark Police Department received official recognition and a certificate of completion from the IACP, signifying that the Department has fulfilled all campaign requirements and demonstrated measurable progress in advancing trust, transparency, and accountability.
