On January 19, 2025, at approximately 2:49 a.m., a white male suspect entered a business located in the 800 block of South College Avenue.
Upon entering the store, the suspect immediately grabbed a customer, forcing the victim face-first into the counter. The suspect then moved behind the counter, where he pushed the store clerk into the counter and onto the ground. During the incident, the suspect yelled at both victims, made threatening gestures with his hand, and implied that he was armed with a weapon.
The suspect forcibly removed the cash register, containing an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency, and fled the scene in a light brown Chevrolet Traverse bearing Massachusetts registration. At the time of the robbery, the vehicle had not been reported stolen.
Both victims sustained minor injuries and refused treatment.
Newark Police Department detectives responded and initiated an investigation into the robbery. Subsequent to the incident, the vehicle involved was later reported stolen by a victim in another state.
During the early morning hours of January 20, 2026, the stolen vehicle was observed by Kentucky State Police. Troopers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, which resulted in a vehicle pursuit within their jurisdiction.
The suspect, identified as Jeremi Thibeault Sr., 34, of Massachusetts, was subsequently arrested by Kentucky State Police after a brief pursuit and is currently incarcerated in Kentucky pending charges.
Newark Police Department detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Thibeault related to the robbery and associated charges involving the two victims, and he is currently incarcerated in Kentucky.
