Newark Police Investigate a Fatal Pedestrian Crash in a Shopping Center

At approximately 9:30 a.m. on May 14, 2025, officers from the Newark Police Department responded to a crash involving a pedestrian at a shopping center in the 200 block of East Main Street.

Preliminary investigation revealed that an elderly female pedestrian was crossing the parking lot toward the storefronts when she was struck by a pickup truck traveling through the lot.

Newark Police officers arrived on the scene and immediately rendered emergency medical aid to the victim with EMS units from Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder Company. The pedestrian was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where she was admitted in serious, critical condition.   During the overnight hours, the pedestrian died due to the injuries that were sustained in the crash.   The driver was contacted and identified on the scene.

The Newark Police Traffic Response Unit is investigating this crash, and this is an ongoing investigation.   Charges related to the incident are under review by Newark Police investigators and the Delaware Attorney General’s Office.  The name of the victim is being withheld pending family notifications.
