Newark Man Charged After Shooting Into Occupied Apartment

On February 14, 2024, at about 1004 hours, Newark Police responded to an apartment in the 700-block of Adams Drive for a late report of a shooting.  Upon arrival, patrol officers spoke with an apartment resident who advised that they heard a gunshot earlier that morning at about 0630 hours.  When the resident went into the living room of the apartment, the resident observed damage to their ceiling and a bullet fragment on the floor.

Officers spoke with the resident in the apartment above as to the source of the gunshot.  Newark Police Detectives subsequently served a search warrant on the apartment, where they located a handgun as well as a bullet entry point in the floor.  Further investigation determined that the gun was fired accidentally by the resident.

At the time of the shooting, the apartment below was occupied by two people, who did not suffer any injury.

Newark Police took the shooter into custody without incident.  He was identified as Tyler Wade, 29, of Newark.  Wade was transported to Newark Police headquarters where he was charged with two counts of Reckless Endangering First Degree.  Wade appeared before Justice of the Peace Court #11 by video and was released after posting $12,000 secured bail.
