My Tweets#CitizensPoliceAcademy continues tonight. Last week, students learned about traffic stops and made simulated stops, along with a demo from our K9 Unit. Tonight they learn about use of force and SWAT. This weekend they will get the chance to shoot at the range.⠀
Our first session of the 2021 Citizens' Police Academy started last week, with a building tour and overview of our agency and the Communications Center. The academy continues tonight with the patrol division and its procedures, along with meeting our K9 Unit.⠀

This week is #RailSafetyWeek. Help us to #STOPTrackTragedies by staying off railroad tracks except at marked crossings. Officers will be out today at railroad crossings enforcing the law and handing out educational materials.⠀
Congratulations to our newest police officer, Ryan Hultberg, who graduated from the Delaware State Police Academy last night and was formally sworn-in today. He will continue his training for the next 12 weeks in our field training process.⠀
We pause to remember those who lost their lives 20 years ago today. We thank those first responders and family members who are still dealing with the effects from that day.⠀

Last week, M/Cpl Saunders, one of our School Resource Officers, met with the 18-21 Transition Program at @newarkcharterschoolde This new program, facilitated by Angela Hansen, works in the community to build vocational skills and independent living skills for these high school graduates to transition into adulthood.⠀
Last week, Mayor Clifton honored Dr. Miki King of the @newlondonvet with a proclamation for her 15+ years of service as the NPD K9 Unit veterinarian. Present at the ceremony were members of City Council, City Staff and current and former members of the Newark PD K9 Unit.⠀
